Week of Fashion SS24

Candace DiTalamo

Another fashion week runway show is officially in the books! This year has been quite a rollercoaster for me. I must admit, I was a bit late in getting everything organised for my show, and that had me feeling really nervous about whether it would live up to expectations. I've always struggled with imposter syndrome, but this time around, it felt like it was on overdrive. I mean, all these garments are lovingly handmade by yours truly, and I've poured my heart and soul into each and every one of them. So, you could say I was feeling extra emotional.

During the fittings, I couldn't help but worry that the collection might look a bit disjointed. But you won't believe the surprise I got when so many people told me it was my best show to date!

I absolutely adore fabric and textile design, and this year, I decided to pay homage to the beauty of Saris. I took two old Saris and gave them a fresh lease of life by turning them into two gorgeous summer jackets. The theme of the show was all about summer botanical textile design, featuring those lovely Saris, my jackets adorned with gold leaf sequins, and a snazzy black-and-white folk art hand-painted denim sports jacket. It was wearable art with a dash of attitude!

I want to extend a huge shoutout to SA Menswear Week for providing us designers with such a well-organised platform to showcase our creations. And, oh, the models! They were not only incredibly professional but also friendly and willing to help our designs shine.

Lastly, but certainly not least, a big thank you to Bridget and Di from Therapy. Their unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in helping me find my own power and reach for the stars.
